BRITISH BULLDOG ACTIVITY & CLUB HISTORY IN SA

The British Bulldog Club of South Australia traces its heritage back to November 27th  1906 when a meeting was held to discuss forming a Bulldog Club. This club, known as the South Australian Bulldog Club had its rules formally accepted at a meeting in January 24th 1907. In 6th December 1909, a meeting was held and a second club was formed, known as the British Bulldog Club of South Australia. During this time reference is made in the Print Media to the Adelaide Bulldog Club, but it appears that this was an alternative reference to the South Australian Bulldog Club. Further investigation needs to be done to confirm this.

In the early 1930s, there were amalgamation talks between the South Australian Bulldog Club and the British Bulldog Club of SA but talks came to naught. In the 1970s, the South Australian Bulldog Club changed its name to the Bulldog Club of South Australia and then later to the British Bulldog Club of South Australia, which continues to today. More research needs to be done here but as copies of the Snort Report are held in the State Library of SA, exact timing and reasons for the change of name should be able to be researched fully.
